How is this list ranked?
The score behind the order counts published facts, not quality: yes or no checks on pricing transparency, terms and commitment, med spa fit, proof and track record, and support and onboarding (how we score).
This page ranks 15 of the 21 vendors in the AI & Automation Tools category: the products sold as a receptionist or front desk answering a med spa's calls, texts or chats.
The six that stay on the full category list are there because their product is something else: Keragon sells workflow automation, Liine call tracking and marketing attribution, Podium an operating system with an EMR and marketing, SignalCore a no-code platform for building AI agents, Relay AI a chatbot platform for lead qualification, and Zellyfi website chat agents alongside website builds.
Every fact here comes from the vendor's own website, with the source link and the date it was read shown on each profile.

What does an AI receptionist for a med spa cost?
Eleven of the 15 publish a starting price.

For what the whole category publishes on price, see how much an AI receptionist costs.
What does setup cost, and what costs extra?
Eight of the 15 state a setup fee.
Six say it costs nothing: BookingBee.ai calls setup free, Hyperleap AI says none with managed setup optional and free, and Abby Connect, MedspAI, MedReception AI and Wellgrow each state none.
Two publish a fee: AgentZap charges a $499 one-time training and setup fee, waived on its Professional plan with a 6-month term, and My Salon Desk charges an onboarding fee equal to one month of the plan price.
The other seven do not state a setup fee either way.
Three publish the costs beyond the plan: MedReception AI sells extra AI minutes at $1.25 each and after-hours or voicemail add-ons at $99 a month each on Essential, AgentZap prices overage from $0.70 to $0.85 a minute depending on plan, and Smith.ai lists per-call add-ons such as appointment booking at $1.50 and call recording and transcription at $0.25.
What are the contract terms?
Ten of the 15 publish their contract terms, and each of the ten says no contract or no commitment on its plans.
Nine of those ten describe month-to-month or cancel-anytime service.
Where a commitment does appear, it runs from 3 to 6 months: My Salon Desk says some plans may require a 3 month contract after the first month, MedspAI offers month-to-month or a 6-month commitment, and AgentZap runs its managed option on a 6-month term.
Eleven of the 15 publish cancellation terms.
The refund positions differ: My Salon Desk states no refunds for any plan or add-on, including on termination; MedReception AI rules out refunds for unused minutes; Ruby says the fixed monthly fee is non-refundable; Hyperleap AI's payment terms state no refund for the current period; Frontdesk AI says refunds are generally not provided; and BookingBee.ai states no refunds for partial periods as a rule.
Four publish money-back offers: Clara AI has a 30-day money-back guarantee for first-time subscribers, AgentZap for new subscribers with one-time fees non-refundable, Smith.ai for new clients, and Ruby a money-back guarantee period for some new customers.
Three record neither a contract term nor a cancellation policy on their profiles: Hello Patient, Krazimo and Recura.
Can you try before you buy?
Four of the 15 publish a free trial.
MedspAI gives a 14-day testing period, Hyperleap AI a 7-day free trial on every plan with a card required, Abby Connect a free trial with every plan, and Smith.ai a $0 free tier covering 25 calls a month.
The other 11 record no free trial on their profiles.
Eleven of the 15 publish a demo or audit; the four without one are Abby Connect, AgentZap, Frontdesk AI and Ruby.
Which channels does each product answer?
Fourteen of the 15 publish phone or call answering: Clara AI, My Salon Desk, Wellgrow, MedReception AI, Abby Connect, BookingBee.ai, MedspAI, AgentZap, Smith.ai, Hello Patient, Frontdesk AI, Krazimo, Recura and Ruby, whose live virtual receptionists answer calls.
The exception is Hyperleap AI, whose channels are website, WhatsApp, Instagram and Messenger chat.
Text and chat coverage splits the rest of the field.
Wellgrow's services cover calls, SMS follow-up, website chat, Instagram DMs and WhatsApp, and MedspAI adds AI SMS replies, AI web chat and a VoIP phone system to its AI receptionist and outbound AI calling.
Hello Patient sells voice, SMS and web chat agents, Frontdesk AI covers phone, web chat and two-way SMS, and Recura answers calls and texts with a webchat coordinator on top.
My Salon Desk pairs phone answering with SMS, web chat and social media virtual reception, Clara AI adds SMS follow-up and confirmations to its calls, Smith.ai lists text and email follow-up, and Krazimo builds for phone and web chat.
BookingBee.ai, MedReception AI, AgentZap and Abby Connect publish call answering without text or chat channels in their service lists.
On hours, Clara AI, Wellgrow, MedspAI, AgentZap and Abby Connect publish 24/7 answering, Frontdesk AI says its receptionist answers calls day or night, Recura answers calls and texts including evenings and weekends, and My Salon Desk publishes standard plan coverage of Monday to Friday 10 AM to 5 PM plus Saturday 10 AM to 2 PM, with no weekend service on MSD Lite.
What do they publish about HIPAA?
Nine of the 15 record a HIPAA position on their profiles.
Five say they sign or offer a Business Associate Agreement: Hello Patient with every practice, AgentZap on the calls it answers, MedReception AI during implementation, Clara AI for eligible deployments, and Wellgrow on request.
Smith.ai states the opposite: it is not HIPAA-compliant and cannot handle protected health information.
Recura describes itself as HIPAA compliant in its FAQ with no BAA statement found, Ruby offers a HIPAA-compliant receptionist and chat option, and Hyperleap AI's med spa page describes HIPAA-aware guardrails.
The other six record no position, and one of them, My Salon Desk, says its receptionists are trained in HIPAA while its profile records no compliance statement or BAA offer.
Whether a vendor will sign a Business Associate Agreement matters when the product handles patient information, so settle it in writing on the sales call.
Which type fits which practice?
If missed calls are the problem, the products built around phone answering include Clara AI, BookingBee.ai, MedReception AI, AgentZap, Abby Connect, Ruby and My Salon Desk.
If patients write on Instagram and WhatsApp, Wellgrow handles Instagram DMs and WhatsApp, and Hyperleap AI covers website chat, WhatsApp, Instagram and Messenger.
If you want a product that sells only to med spas, Wellgrow and MedspAI are the two; Clara AI, My Salon Desk and Recura address med spas as a main market, and the rest serve other appointment businesses too.
If you want a human voice, Abby Connect sells human virtual receptionists, Ruby sells live virtual receptionists, My Salon Desk sells a hybrid AI and human option, and Smith.ai pairs its AI receptionist with live human receptionists.
If your booking system has to be supported, MedspAI lists 12 EMR integrations from Aesthetic Record to Zenoti, Clara AI publishes direct booking into Boulevard, Vagaro, Mindbody and Zenoti, and My Salon Desk books into Vagaro, Mangomint, Boulevard, Zenoti and Jane App.
Recura integrates with PatientNow, Hello Patient integrates with athenaOne and FHIR and HL7 based EHR systems, and Hyperleap AI books consultations through Calendly or Cal.com.
If you run several locations, Clara AI puts multi-location call routing on its Scale plan, MedspAI publishes multi-location settings, BookingBee.ai prices per outlet and lists multi-outlet capability, and Hello Patient records multi-location as its customer size.
If you want proof from a med spa, Clara AI names Elevate Aesthetics & Wellness and Recura names Lone Tree Aesthetics Medical Spa, while BookingBee.ai and Hello Patient publish case study results from a salon and an urgent care clinic.
What should you ask on a sales call?
Ask what a call or minute over the plan allowance costs, because most profiles do not price the overage.
Ask who owns the call recordings, the transcripts and the trained agent if you leave, and whether you can export your data.
Ask whether the vendor will sign a Business Associate Agreement for your deployment, and confirm it in writing.
Ask who books the appointment: the AI directly into your scheduling software, or a request your staff confirm.
Ask what happens to your money if you cancel mid-cycle, because refund rules range from 30-day money-back guarantees to no refunds at all.

Five of the 15 say they sign or offer a Business Associate Agreement: Hello Patient with every practice, AgentZap on the calls it answers, MedReception AI during implementation, Clara AI for eligible deployments, and AI Receptionist Med Spa (Wellgrow) on request. Smith.ai states the opposite, that it is not HIPAA-compliant and cannot handle protected health information. Whatever a sales call promises, get the BAA in writing before you go live.

How is this list of AI receptionists for med spas ranked?
By score. Each vendor is scored with yes or no checks on what its own website publishes, grouped into pricing transparency, terms and commitment, med spa fit, proof and track record, and support and onboarding. The score measures how much a buyer can check before a sales call, not product quality or results. Ties are sorted by name, and no vendor can pay to change its place.
What should I ask an AI receptionist vendor on a sales call?
Ask what a call or minute over your plan allowance costs; three of the 15 publish overage or add-on prices. Ask who owns the call recordings, transcripts and the trained agent if you leave, and whether you can export your data. Ask whether the vendor will sign a BAA for your deployment and confirm it in writing. Ask who books the appointment: the AI directly into your scheduling software, or a request your staff confirm.
