How to Choose Med Spa Imaging and Photography Systems
What 20 med spa imaging and photography vendors publish about prices, contracts, photo export and HIPAA, and what to ask the ones that don't.
Updated Oct 2, 2026 · 7 min read
Key points
- 8 of the 20 imaging and photography vendors we checked publish a price; the other 12 ask you to book a demo, contact sales or buy through a dealer.
- Two vendors publish scanner prices: Styku lists its scanner at $9,500 on top of a monthly plan, and ShapeScale at $9,990 to buy or $199/mo to lease.
- Only 4 of the 20 state a setup fee policy, 6 state a minimum term, and 3 state month-to-month terms.
- Ask every vendor who owns the photos and scans your practice captures and get it in the contract; CureCast and TouchMD publish export terms, which are not the same as ownership.
- 9 of the 20 mention HIPAA, and the 5 case study results published in this category are all conversion or close-rate claims from the vendors' own sites.
12 of the 20 med spa imaging and photography vendors we checked do not publish a price. This category covers skin analysis machines, 3D body scanners for contouring programs, photo apps for before-and-after capture, and 3D simulators that show a patient a result before treatment starts. Some of it is hardware you buy or lease; some is an app on an iPad the practice already owns.
We read the websites of all 20 vendors in this category on October 1, 2026. Every figure below links to a vendor profile, and each profile links to the page the figure came from.
What do these vendors sell?
Hardware makers sell dedicated devices: Canfield Scientific sells VISIA skin analysis, VECTRA 3D imaging and Mirror photo software, FotoFinder Systems makes guided photography systems for standardized face and body images, and Styku and ShapeScale for Business sell 3D body scanners for body contouring tracking.
Software is the other kind. Perfect Corp.'s Skincare Pro runs on an iPad or iPhone with no extra hardware. CureCast, RxPhoto and TouchMD capture and organize before-and-after photos, with consent forms in all three and intake forms and notes in RxPhoto too. Crisalix and Arbrea Labs simulate procedures in 3D or augmented reality, FaceTouchUp simulates facial and body procedures on photos, and Nextmotion wraps standardized photo capture into clinic software with a calendar and billing.
Decide which job you are hiring for before you compare prices: clinical documentation, consultation selling, or both.
Which vendors publish a price?
8 of the 20 publish a price. Six publish a US monthly figure:
| Vendor | Published starting price |
|---|---|
| Fit3D | $83/mo on semi-annual payment, or $150/mo paid monthly |
| CureCast | $150/mo billed annually ($200 billed monthly), Starter |
| Perfect Corp. (Skincare Pro) | $199/mo |
| ShapeScale for Business | $199/mo lease, or $9,990 to buy |
| Styku | $199/mo Access plan plus $9,500 one-time for the scanner, or from $399/mo all in on a lease |
| Arbrea Labs | $299/mo (Basic); a free plan is also listed |
CureCast's Starter price covers one clinic location and 3 devices.
Nextmotion publishes four plans in euros, starting at €99/mo excl. VAT with a 12-month commitment. Sylton (Observ) sells its Observ devices through dealers and does not list device prices; it publishes cloud storage for its Sylton Connect platform from €4.99/mo for 25GB.
These 12 do not publish a price: Aura Reality, Canfield Scientific, Cortex Technology, Courage + Khazaka, Crisalix, FaceTouchUp, FotoFinder Systems, LifeViz (Quartier Latin), MEICET, Miravex (Antera 3D), RxPhoto and TouchMD. What they say instead varies: FaceTouchUp says its price depends on practice size and is given on a demo call, and Crisalix names Gold, Platinum and Diamond plans with prices on request.
What sits behind the headline price?
Both scanners have published one-time prices: Styku lists its scanner at $9,500 and finances it over 60 months at 0% APR, subject to credit approval, and ShapeScale sells its scanner for $9,990 or leases it at $199/mo, quoting financing from $339/mo on a purchase.
Setup and onboarding: 4 of the 20 state a policy. CureCast and FaceTouchUp say there is none. ShapeScale charges a $199 one-time delivery and setup fee, and leases require a refundable $400 security deposit. Nextmotion's Starter setup is self-service, and it sells an optional Quickstart setup and migration at €1,000 on Growth and €2,000 on Scale, excl. VAT.
Extras to price out:
- Styku's Access plan adds its Aesthetics & Sculpting module for +$100/mo, and additional Health Screens are $60 each once promotional credits are used.
- Nextmotion charges €29/month per extra user, and the iPhone its Capture app runs on is not included.
- ShapeScale's lease covers scan processing for up to 100 monthly active users; buying raises that to 250 for the life of the device.
- Canfield Scientific bundles upgrades and support into an annual Canfield Care agreement; its site says hourly charges apply without one.
How long are you locked in?
6 of the 20 state a minimum term. CureCast and FaceTouchUp say no contract. Nextmotion asks for a 12-month commitment billed monthly. ShapeScale's 45-day trial rolls into a 12-month lease, with no term if you buy. Styku and TouchMD set the term in the order, and TouchMD adds that subscriptions renew automatically for the same term.
8 of the 20 publish how cancellation works, and several of the published terms leave you paying for the whole period:
- Fit3D: its site says the Starter Package can be cancelled anytime, but its terms say orders are generally not cancelled or refunded.
- Arbrea Labs: subscriptions can be terminated through device settings, and are not refunded for the rest of the period.
- Crisalix: written notice ends the agreement at any time, but terminating early leaves the remainder of the subscription period payable within 5 business days.
- Styku: early cancellation brings no refund of prepaid fees.
- TouchMD: notice of non-renewal at least 30 days before the end of the term; the terms say fees paid are not refundable.
- ShapeScale: return during the 45-day trial for a refund less the $199 setup fee; after the trial, purchased devices cannot be returned and lease customers owe the rest of the 12-month term.
- CureCast and FaceTouchUp: cancel anytime, with no cancellation fee.
What happens to your photos if you leave?
Ask every vendor who owns the photos and scans your practice captures, and get the answer in the agreement; the images are clinical records and marketing assets at the same time.
Two vendors publish how export works. CureCast says you can download your full photo library and patient records at any time, with no export fee. TouchMD's terms say that on request within 30 days after termination it will make a file of customer data available at the price it then charges for that service.
Pin down whatever a vendor says before signing: in what format can I export, what is included, what does it cost, and how long do you keep my images after I leave?
What do they say about HIPAA?
9 of the 20 publish a HIPAA statement. Aura Reality requires a signed business associate agreement before its technicians can access a clinic's image database, CureCast says it signs a BAA with every US practice, and TouchMD attaches a BAA to its software terms. Crisalix says it is not a covered entity but protects patient privacy in a manner that comports with HIPAA. Perfect Corp. says client data is kept HIPAA and GDPR compliant, Sylton says its Sylton Connect cloud platform complies with both GDPR and HIPAA, RxPhoto describes HIPAA-compliant cloud storage with role-based access controls, and FaceTouchUp and Canfield Scientific also state HIPAA compliance.
The others say nothing about HIPAA on the pages we read. Ask for their position in writing, and ask whether they will sign a BAA.
What proof do they publish?
5 of the 20 publish a case study result, and every one of them is a conversion or close-rate claim from the vendor's own site:
- Aura Reality's case study says clinics using its system report over 30% more patient conversions.
- Cortex Technology quotes clinic Graceful Space reporting a conversion rate of up to 50% for product sales and continued treatments.
- Crisalix quotes plastic surgeon Sam Jejurikar saying his conversion rates went from about 50–60 percent to over 85 percent.
- RxPhoto quotes Touch MedSpa going from closing 45% of consultations to over 90%.
- TouchMD quotes Michael Edwards, MD, saying his conversion rate increased at least 45%.
These are the vendors' own claims; we have not used these products, so treat them as things to probe on a demo. Named practices are another signal: CureCast says SkinLab by Dr. Jamuna Pai runs it across 20+ aesthetic clinic locations, RxPhoto lists Sono Bello and Synergy Face + Body, TouchMD lists EVOLV Medical Aesthetics and Nowak Aesthetics, and FaceTouchUp says surgeons at over 500 practices use its simulator.
Can you try before you buy?
15 of the 20 offer a demo, and 5 publish a free trial or free plan: Arbrea Labs (free plan), CureCast (14 days, no credit card), FaceTouchUp, Perfect Corp. (14 days) and ShapeScale (45 days to return the device).
What should you ask before you sign?
- What is the total first-year cost, including hardware, subscription, setup, training and any per-scan or per-user charges?
- What does the price become after the first term? Styku's Elite plan is $349/mo for a limited time, normally $499/mo.
- How long is the term, does it renew automatically, and what does exiting early cost?
- How do I export every photo and record, in what format, and at what cost?
- Will you sign a BAA, and who on your side can see patient images?
- For hardware, what does the warranty cover and what happens when it ends? ShapeScale's lease includes unlimited warranty and its purchase a 2-year limited warranty.
- Who trains my team? CureCast's Practice plan includes 3 hours of hands-on training; Arbrea Labs offers personalized onboarding.
